Pink Out at LCCTC
Once again, Peer Leadership hopes to make a difference in our community and beyond.
During the month of October, Peer Leaders sponsored Pink Out Days each Friday. Giving the campaign a jump-start, they designed and sold t-shirts for staff and students to wear to bring awareness to this all-too-common disease. They also sponsored Sweat Pant Day to raise money for breast cancer research. Students were also given the opportunity to recognize and remember those family members and loved ones who have fought the fight against cancer on a Wall of Hope.
All proceeds were donated towards Dr. Slamon. A New Castle High school graduate, funds travel straight to Dr. Dennis Joseph Slamon, an American oncologist and chief of the division of Hematology-Oncology at UCLA, for his Breast Cancer Research at UCLA. He is best known for his work identifying the HER2/neu oncogene that is amplified in 25-33% of breast cancer patients and the resulting treatment Herceptin.
Great job, Peer Leaders!
