A Digital Masterpiece Comes to Life!
A friendly pre-break competition became so much more than a simple crafting project for Computer Office Technology sophomore Genevieve Taylor.
Ms. LeeAnn Gabriel, Instructor of COT, tasked students to create a video game character using pixel art in Microsoft Excel. Genevieve made it her goal to take the assignment one step further and created multiple video game characters.
When the Give a Christmas Tree-topper competition was announced, Genevieve took the initiative and accepted the job. Using each video game character she created in Microsoft Excel, she fashioned a hand-crafted tree topper AND many tree ornaments!
Working on this project for days both in class and at home, she took the time to hand-fashion each component of the tree that would proudly represent her shop and would spotlight the level of skill needed to succeed in the field of computer and office technology.
While many see learning a skill using Microsoft Excel as doing nothing more than filling endless blank rows and columns, Genevieve viewed it as a platform to bring her artwork to life. She used spreadsheet software as a drawing tool.
The end result — a digital masterpiece come to life!
Congratulations Genevieve — For you: The sky’s the limit!
