"Crowning Glory"

by El McKnight, junior EO

Hair is a huge part of our everyday lives.  Despite how possibly vain or common it may seem, it is how many express themselves.  Whether you just rolled out of bed or took hours styling your locks, to many, hair can convey some sort of message and can define a person.  In this blustery December weather, LCCTC is feeling the warmth!  Well -- everyone but one.  Elijah McVay, a Shenango junior in Welding known for his unrivaled head of hair, has shown unwavering support to his family in a time of hardship.

McVay’s grandmother, recently diagnosed with cancer, has started her chemotherapy treatments; one of the many side effects is a loss of hair.  “Thinking about losing her hair really bothered my grandmother,” McVay tells us.  “and I wanted to show her that I love her.”

To be an ever encouraging voice and signify that he is always by her side, our own CTC champion decided to surprise her.  Instead of using words to comfort her, McVay used an action.  Gone are his mass of curly locks; he shaved his head, as well!

To show his unfaltering love for his grandmother, McVay has taken this step — a step that no one will be quick to forget anytime soon!

The Bible says that a woman’s hair is her crown of glory; however, perhaps Grandma’s glory lies in her legacy -- her grandson.
