Peer Leaders Spread Cheer: Three Christmas Contests
THE FIRST CONTEST: Peer Leaders brought on the cheer with Ugly Sweater Day, though we could hardly call these sweaters “ugly.” Penguins, gingerbread men, a pink flamingo, Sponge Bob and a present filled with candy canes (for added judging bribery) graced the cutest ugly sweaters around. We even saw supporting accessories like elf and Santa hats, too! Third place was awarded to the Candy Cane Present sweater, Tommilynn Genereo (Shenango ~ CA ‘23). Second place, the Spongebob sweater Dylan Rossman (Laurel ~ RT, ‘24) The first prize went to Keyaria Snider (New Castle ~ Cos ‘23)! From these bright, cheery sweaters, these kids have plenty of Christmas spirit to spare!
THE SECOND CONTEST: Peer Leaders sponsored the Classroom Door Challenge. The challenge was this: each academic teacher will choose one class to decorate their door for the holiday season. The theme should be holiday-related. Decorations should be 80% handmade and not all store-bought items. Decorations may be made ahead of time and then added to the door on the designated date. Finally, doors must be decorated by December 15th at 3 PM. Judging was made by a team of expert door judges and, according to those judges — the decision was a tough one; only one point separated the first and second place doors, but in the end, the winning door was Mrs. McVicker’s “Home for Christmas” door, complete with chalk-drawn windowpanes, three-dimensional candles in the windows, and hand-made felt finger puppets that served as the tinsel tree’s decorations. This 6th-period class has earned a pizza party!
THE THIRD CONTEST: Peer Leaders challenged each shop to create the perfect Christmas tree filled with ornaments and decorations, 80% of which must be handmade. The trees, located in the cafeteria for all to enjoy, were ready for decorating just after the annual Holiday Dance, which allowed each shop to assemble their “elves” to create the ornaments for display. The theme for each shop: their own shop, of course! Just wait until you see the creativity! The winning shop, Oil and Gas, earned a pizza party for their entire shop!
The Peer Leaders and all at Lawrence County CTC wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday!
