"I Did That!" SkillsUSA Serves at YMCA Camp Kon-o-Kwee

Twenty SkillsUSA members head to YMCA Camp Kon-o-Kwee in Fombell, PA to serve the community. They were tasked with building projects that would help help increase the number of beds offered at summer camp, relieving long waiting lists. They also worked to ensure that special-needs adults at Camp Spencer could enjoy a summertime picnic outside.

Much of the work they completed on this beautiful fall day was outside of their wheelhouse as this hard-working group are from programs like Computer and Office Technology, Cosmetology, Electrical Occupations, Health Assistants, Restaurant, and Veterinary Assistant; however, that didn’t stop them from working until 28 bunk-bed legs had been cut and assembled using jigs; well-over two-dozen beds had been sanded, stained, and stacked, ready to be moved by the skid; and four picnic tabletops were cut and assembled — all from standard 2x4 and 2x6s. In a nutshell, sleeping space for over two-dozen available beds in the summer of 2023 was now doubled with the building of these bunk beds. Additionally, special needs adults can now wheel right up to a picnic table to enjoy a picnic lunch in warmer weather.

Great job, LCCTC Chapter of SkillsUSA! You have truly made this world a better place with every finished piece. You can look back on the day and say, “I did that!” and be proud of the quality product you produced.
