LCCTC Enters PennDOT's Paint the Plow
Once the Automotive students got their hands on the 900 lb plow, they got right to work grinding, pounding, torching, repairing, sanding, and polishing the rusty, crusty, dusty surfaces. They painted it yellow and polished the surface so that it was smooth and clean for Commercial Art students to install the graphics.
While the AT kids went to town on the plow, senior Leo Drespling got busy preparing the graphics: just in time for deer and snow season! Her design features an oncoming car at night from the point of view of a white-tail buck. The message screams the theme: “Seatbelts are ALWAYS in season!”
Once Drespling’s vision was transferred onto the plow’s surface, the AT students finished it off with a clear coat to protect the surface so the image would last as long as possible.
And with that, in true LCCTC spirit, we sent it back to Penn DOT better than it arrived!
Big thanks to Mr. Dudich and Parsons for moving the plow to the front of the building to show it off before it reached its final home, back at the PennDOT station just across from the Neshannock Dairy Queen.
We recommend that you see it in person; it’s worth it!
According to the PennDOT website,
The goal of Paint the Plow is to raise awareness of safety and school art programs. The program also offers two awards - Judge's Pick and Fan Favorite.
The winner of the Judge's Pick is determined by members of PennDOT who are selected to determine which plow fulfilled the theme with the best original art.
For Fan Favorite, an online voting system is set up allowing community members to vote for their favorite plow. Voting for this year's program is expected to take place in connection with Winter Driving Awareness Week January 21 to 27, 2024.
We’ll be sure to post the online voting system link when it comes out! In advance, “Thank you for your vote!”
In the meantime, while we wait to vote, we’d like to say, “Great job, Auto Tech and Commercial Art students!” AND — “Wear your seatbelt!”
