'21 Graduate Hosts SRU's "Steel Stallion Exhibition"
by Mr. Anthony DeRosa
Recently at Slippery Rock University’s Student Art Gallery, LCCTC 2021 alumni, Zoey Galat partnered with one of her classmates for the “Steel Stallion Exhibition”.
The quality of Zoey’s photographs was the talk of the room filled with family, friends, and art enthusiasts. The exhibition even sparked the interest of buyer. Her former teacher, Mr. Anthony Derosa — cofounder of the gallery, shares, “When I arrived at the show I had to wait to greet her as she was in the middle of finalizing the sale of several works!
“Those of you who knew Zoey recall she embodied what we do best for the students of Lawrence County,” DeRosa continues, “and she asked that I tell all of her former teachers, ‘Thank you!’ She also wanted to remind everyone how appreciative she is of the skills LCCTC helped her realize.” She is indeed putting her CTC training to great use.
Galat shares, “I’m so happy I got to experience planning, hosting, and setting up my own exhibition!”
What makes it even more special is that this is the same art gallery that was co-founded by DeRosa during his time as a student at SRU. “With the help of some fellow art students,” states DeRosa, “we were able to organize and petition the university to support the initiative. It has now served as a resource for current art students to exhibit works and explore ideas.”
DeRosa admits, “Seeing one of my first alumni getting to exhibit in a gallery means so much to me. It was one of those proud teacher moments, for sure.”
Great job, Zoey! And congratulations!
