Robot Day at the AMP Lab!
Today was a fun day at the AMP program held at the Lawrence County Learning Center. It was the Robotics Lab Day!
Junior LCCTC welding student, John Ditch joined fellow AMP students from the county schools, which included Emily Shaffer, Neshannock High School junior and niece of LCCTC English teacher, Lyn McVicker-Shaffer. Both John and Emily are Life Scouts in BSA, John from Neshannock Troop #743 and Emily from Wilmington Troop #733. Just like in merit badge camps for the past few years, these two teamed up to tackle Penn College Advanced Manufacturing Pre-apprenticeship (AMP) program offered through a PA Department of Labor and Industry Grant.
The AMP program is designed to increase awareness in today’s manufacturing environment and a diverse career path in industries like aerospace, agriculture, automotive, construction, medicine, and industrial robotics. It provides a foundation in theory and hands-on skills for high-demand jobs like CNC Machinists, Health and Safety Inspection, and Mechatronics Maintenance. The program provides a bridge to potential future employment upon graduation. Upon successful completion of the course, students have the opportunity to take an industry-recognized Certified Manufacturing Associate certificate examination.
Great job, John, Emily, and all of the students from across the county.
