Serving the Community: Lawrence County CTC Peer Leadership Weekend Food Pantry

At Lawrence County CTC, a remarkable group of students works together to make a real difference in their community. Through the Peer Leadership Program, students support their peers and families by providing essential food items every weekend. This initiative is a part of the Weekend Food Pantry, which serves to make sure no student has to go without during the days when school isn't in session.

Thanks to the generous donations from New Life Bread Basket on East Washington Street, the pantry can provide a wide range of food items. These include fruit cups, milk, cereal, juice, crackers, raisins, and more—staples that help sustain students and their families as they prepare for the weekend.

The Peer Leaders work hard toward the end of each week, gathering together to sort and assemble the food bags. These bags are packed with care, ensuring that each one contains the nourishment needed for the upcoming days. On Fridays, as the school day comes to a close, students have the opportunity to pick up a bag as they leave for the weekend. Whether they exit through the main hallway or the front doors, students can easily grab a bag to take with them. Even those who drive to school can pick up a bag on their way out to the student parking lot.

This initiative not only provides essential food for students, but also helps create a sense of community and support. It's a great example of how young leaders can make a positive impact, and how organizations like New Life Bread Basket can work with schools to make a real difference. Through their efforts, the Peer Leaders are helping to ensure that their fellow students are nourished and cared for, showing how small acts of kindness can build a stronger, more connected community.
