Teamwork for Kids

When the first 65 week-long meal bags dwindled down to around a dozen, Jason Williams, director of The Nutrition Group Food Services at LCCTC left Mr. Restino, who had kicked in to help distribute, and headed quickly to the cafeteria to pack more bags. Seeing his urgency and realizing that more hands were needed, our staff — vocational and academic alike, ready to call it a day and head to the front counter to sign out — stepped in to lend a hand. After a very long week, these teachers, weary from a five days of online instruction, and administrators, weary from meeting after meeting and phone call after phone call, jumped into action. Five of this item and five of that item — “Are there milks packed in? Juices? vegetables? Here — have some applesauce! Don’t forget the Chicken nuggets!” And soon — forty more bags filled with nutritious meals were packed and on their way to the front, ready for pickup.

“I couldn’t have done this all myself,” Mr. Williams commented — overwhelmed to have such help.

To that, Principal Milanovich replied, “That’s just what we do around here. We all pitch in and lend a hand — especially for the kids.”

In all, over 100 free breakfasts and lunches were assembled for any student who came to the pickup. These pickup days will continue every Friday from 2-3PM for as long as the district remains virtual because these are challenging times for everyone. It’s the goal of the LCCTC family to support our students and their families as much as we can.

“If you need help next week,” grinned Mr. Simon, “I’m in.” Mrs. Pasterik (biology teacher), Ms. Price (Restaurant Trades instructor), Mr. Goebel (Auto Technician instructor), and Mrs. McVicker (English teacher) agreed.

You see — it IS what we do around here. And it’s all for the kids.
