The Overflowing Sleigh: Blanket Drive for the United Way

LCCTC is pleased to announce that, through the efforts of Mrs. Pasterik and Mr. Ovial, that today, we were able to donate 69 blankets to the United Way!

“I wanted to reach out and thank you all very much for your donations to the Peer Leadership/United Way Blanket Drive,” states Mrs. Pasterik. “This is our first year participating in the Blanket Drive and I think we knocked it out of the park!”

Prior to LCCTC being shut down to in person learning, the Peer Leaders were hosting “Dress Code Violation Days” (formerly known as Sweatpants Days) to raise money for the drive. Over two different days, Peer Leaders were able to raise $102 to begin to purchase blankets. These blankets were displayed in a showcase in the academic wing.

Once the shutdown occurred, Peer Leaders resorted to seeking donations to purchase blankets, and as always, the generosity of the community humbled us. Several staff members bought new blankets to add to the display, but that was not all! Mrs. Pasterik and Mr. Ovial gathered several mail-in donations from LCCTC families, from our Joint Operating Committee members, and from our wonderful staff; these monetary donations went to the purchase of dozens more!

On the final day, when the blankets were bagged and carted off to the front lobby, the cart resembled the Grinch’s overflowing sleigh!

Special Thanks to Corporal James Hoyland, from the New Castle Police Department, for picking up and making our delivery to The United Way today. Our SRO is the best!

On behalf of Peer Leadership, Mr. Ovial, and Mrs. Pasterik, they’d like like to, once again, say “Thank You” for being the best Lawrence County! Because of all of you, families will receive blankets to stay warm and cozy this winter.
