Winter Morning Ride

by Rory Hudson, Cos sophomore (Wilmington)

In the winter deep the rider prepares

The horse snorts into the winter air

Cold breath puffs from both alike

As the snow slides down the rider hikes

On hills of glistening powder

The beat of hooves growing louder

Along the dreary winter scene

The rider wonders the paths unseen

With trees all bare and ground froze down

The horse plods on while animals sleep all around

Careful clip-clops fill the air

Making sure hooves don’t snare

Rocky paths cover the scape

The rider pushes on without restraint

Looking over the forest floor

She finds place once called a moor

Now frozen over and still at once

She stops to finally have her lunch

After warmed and belly full

She remounts with a careful pull

Now back to the stable with quick pace

She must return fore the dusk of the winter scape

From the dwindling light, she tops the hill now at home

Relief fills her as she can see the arena dome

Unsaddle, re-blanket, and feed the horse

Then finish all of the barn chores

Dinner made and waiting warm

She finds her way home from the barn

Settled down with guests for dinner now

She tells them of the beautiful morning snow

A Christmas Poem

by Dylan Rossman, RT sophomre (Laurel)

Christmas is the the best

Can't get a rest

Hot cocoa and cookies

And all the goodies

Snowball fights and fun

Tell me who won

Bright lights so shiny

Anyone can participate – big and tiny

Sled ride have a race

A big hill that's the place

Presents under the tree

Oh what the heck, drink some tea

Snow and ice

wear a coat is my advice

School is out

Run and shout

Mom, Dad, the whole fam

eating a honey glazed ham

Don't forget the music it brings joy

Anyone, anyone girl or boy

If you don't celebrate this holiday it's sad

so make me glad

Is Santa real or not?

It’s cold not hot

I listed so many things

Wait for it the sleigh bell rings

Do you have the milk, cookies, and carrots for Santa and reindeer

Few hours later your presents are here

It's morning not night

Did I get what I want? What a fright!

I did! I love it!

I'm a Christmas kid!

LOVE LIKE MELTED SHOW

by Ronielee Schaffer, HA Sophomre (Shenango)

GINGERBREAD CONTEST

by Madison Werner, HA Sophomore (Neshannock)

Building gingerbread houses big and tall

Praying and hoping they don’t fall

Red and green so big and bold

Hoping the candy will stay and hold

With colorful candy canes,

and a lot of frosting stains

We build and build until we can't no more,

and hope they don't get bumped and hit the floor

We try to clean as much as we can,

and always ask for a helping hand

We move our houses out for show,

and make sure we add a bow

Our family looks at them one by one,

and you pray that yours is fully done

At the end of the night they eat the winner,

and you hope that yours just isn't bitter
