Our Community Saves the Day!
by Skye Moore, Cosmetology Class of 2022
“A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal.”- Steve Maraboli.
To say the least, this has been a year filled with struggle — for all of us, but it’s been especially tough on our kiddos who truly love the hands-on learning they can find at LCCTC.
Generosity has been expressed in many ways by people who are compassionate about helping others in their time of need. LCCTC’s Cosmetology program understands this and is incredibly grateful -- three times over!
This past February, Mary Turner’s Day Spa shared the first gift.. Mary Turner, a member of LCCTC’s Occupational Advisory Board for the Cosmetology shop, is a staple in the New Castle area; the day spa offers services for the hair, nails, skin, and makeup. The services offered include, hair salon, nail salon, skin, and other services. Turner generously donated two facial machines, a magnifying light, and pedicure cart to the cosmetology class.
Mrs. Jones, Cosmetology instructor, explains, “I am extremely grateful for the generous donations.” She also tells us how the items donated are going to be helpful. “The students will benefit from the facial machines because we currently don't have these particular ones; learning on a variety of equipment is a plus.” She continues, “The pedicure cart is a bonus because now, two students can work at the same time, learning from each other. The magnifying light is going to be a perfect addition to when we study waxing procedures.”
The second gift comes from the family of a recent graduate who passed away in a tragic accident. Mrs. Jones states that Chrissie Huzinec, owner of Chrissi’s Cleaning Service, donated $100 in memory of her son, Carter Huzinec. “We desperately needed to purchase new nail polish and, because of Mrs. Huzinec’s generosity, we can now make this happen.
The third generous gift comes to us from yet another local businesswoman in the cosmetics sector. Nancy Fenton, a local beauty consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics, donated $1500 in cosmetic products to budding cosmetologists, eager to make the world a beautiful place. Just this week, our students were able to begin practicing waxing, hair removal, and makeup — with quality products!
“It is truly amazing,” states Jones. “The community has opened their hearts to what we do here at the school as we prepare our students to fill the skills needed for tomorrow’s jobs.”
Jones understands the bigger picture that comes with our community’s generosity: “These donations truly send a message to our students that the community cares and that what we do here at LCCTC is important.”
Principal Mike Milanovich is appreciative, as well, as he states: “It is always amazing to see how our community comes together to support the needs of the students. There has yet to be a time when our kids needed something, and the school community was not able to provide it. Thank you to each of you who continue to make this happen year in and year out.”
LCCTC is quite thankful for the donations from Mary Turner, Chrissy Huzinec, and Nancy Fenton, as their donations will help the cosmetology students learn more using updated equipment and new supplies. The generosity allows students to fulfil their learning potentials, ensuring that our students will be job-ready day one.
LCCTC is greatly appreciative of the generosity of Mary Turner’s Day Spa, Chrissi’s Cleaning Service, and Nancy Fenton of Mary Kay; we look forward to a continued partnership and will be forever grateful for your kindness.
