LCCTC Student College & Career Fair
On Tuesday, March 15th, after a two-year hiatus, business owners, military recruiters, union representatives, and admissions officers from area technical schools and colleges once again made the trip into the classrooms at LCCTC.
Their purpose? To encourage great students to make their business, their branch, or their school a choice upon graduation.
“I really liked the opportunities that a place like California University offers. There is help with financing,” states Patricia Kelly, Vet Assistant junior, “and I like the majors they offer!”
Rachel Carbone, junior Health Assistant student was surprised to find that there were so many options to help students with post-secondary education. “I always knew that I could apply for scholarships, but opportunities like Job Corps to help may with tuition and books were new to me! It really makes me think about my plans for when I graduate!”
Social Studies teacher, Ms. Leah Cozza liked that the speakers gave the kids opportunities to ask questions. “You could really tell that, after two long years of struggling to see a future, kids are once again excited about their futures; they seemed excited, and the virtual tour that NCST gave really helped the kids see that extending their training after high school was a viable option!”
“I attended one of the presentations given by representatives from a Union,” shares Sami Fulmur (Construction Trades junior). “I am excited about the opportunities in the electrical field, the wages and benefits, and the careers when I finish my training.”
Because of the variety of representatives, Fulmer was also able to attend a technical school presentation. “I have options,” she states. “Before I graduate, I’ll take time to look a little deeper into my options when I do my Career Plan in my English class!”
This is an incredible opportunity for our students — helping them to consider their plans for “tomorrow.”
