RT Sophomores Serve Superintendents

by Charae “Hope” Franklin ~ Restaurant Trades Class of 2025 (NCSD)

On October 21, 2022, the Restaurant Trades sophomores hosted a luncheon for the superintendents of Lawrence County.

The menu was a true team effort; the lunch menu consisted of . . .

  • Bruschetta with a balsamic reduction glaze made by India Golden

  • Tuscany Chicken made by Hope Franklin

  • Penne Pasta made by Sam Kumchik

For dessert — a choice of homemade pumpkin roll made by Avery Hall or molten lava cake made by Dajuan Dawson and Drake Van Horn.

The action not only happened in the kitchen; the front of the house was busy, as well. The newly-renovated dining room was decorated for fall by Grace Hassan and Nadaine Aquino.

It was all hands on deck when it came to the preparation. In the end, much was learned. “I had to cut a lot of garlic for the sauce,” states Kumchik. “Who knew garlic is so sticky?”

Franklin states, “Making the sauce was a little stressful! Trying not to overheat it was not easy?”

Van Horn really enjoyed his experience. “It was interesting experimenting with how much chocolate to put into the cake, or how long to bake it. I can't wait to do another Luncheon!”

It seems like preparing this luncheon was a lot of work, and a lot of good stress, but it was a great experience, and we may agree with Drake Van Horn: We can’t wait for you to cook again! And maybe — just maybe — there’s a molten lava cake in our future!
