Hands-on Experience in Computer & Office Technology

Computer and Office Technology students helped LCCTC’s Technology Director Mr. Powner with networking by adding wired cables throughout Mrs. Hanes' Study Island classroom.

This task included climbing a ladder, going into the ceiling, and creating a smooth path for cables to be straight and organized. They also removed wires that were out-of-date to their time, replaced those wires with new and faster ones, and added ends to those new wires to be used for faster internet.

Those working on the project were Jacoby Montgomery (Team Leader), Ashley Cwynar, Isaiah Chapman, Wyatt Turpin and Kyle Conti.

“The students were self-motivated asking for tasks to assist with updating the technology at LCCTC,” states Mr. Powner. “Updating the network in Ms. Haynes’ classroom will allow more cyber students to enjoy faster access to their Study Island program.”

Mr. Powner considers future benefits as he continues, “While the student assistance will prove valuable to LCCTC their experience will prove to be invaluable to them.”

These advanced students in the COT shop gained new hands-on experience by helping Mr.Powner. It gave them an opportunity to explore a different area of IT which helps them decide on a future career path.

We would like to thank Mr. Powner, Principal Caiazza, Director Rich, and COT instructor Ms. Gabriel for this opportunity and for trusting us to help tackle this work order.
