"Turkeys CAN Fly!": Peer Leaders Pack 80 Dinners

“Turkeys CAN fly! Eighty of them flew right out the door,” announces Mr. Anthony Ovial, co-advisor for Peer Leadership at LCCTC, “and that was all made possible by you!”

It’s the 6th annual Turkey Box campaign which has grown from 14 to 80 meals! With the help of LCCTC’s Peer Leaders and GROWn Members who packed the bags, helped with delivery, and served as great ambassadors for this school, 80 families will experience a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the “fixin’s”: gravy, stuffing, corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, dinner rolls, and of course — turkey!

This was truly an all-school event that included students, teachers, administration, custodians, cafeteria ladies, and secretaries; so many in this building handed us money along the way, gave encouragement and donated toward this project, allowed kids out of class for this service opportunity, and put in the extra effort to make this happen! One of our junior Restaurant Trades members and Peer Leaders, Hope Franklin, compiled a book of recipes to distribute to the families, as well!

Generosity came from outside the building, as well; a big THANK YOU goes to: Nick Neupauer (a graduate and Peer Leader who was the first to chair the “Turkey Box” campaign), the Burgo and Michalojko families for providing the funds for the 80 pies — made with love from scratch by students in our Restaurant Trades program and packed in boxes designed by our Commercial Art program, SEIU Local 688, Leaps & Bounds Gymnastics, and Victory Family Church (who donated the 80 turkeys and paid for the remaining food needed to fill each bag.

A special thank you also goes to Victory Family Church’s SERVE Team as they delivered turkeys to families unable to make it to the school for pickup.

Thank you to all who made the 2023 Turkey Boxes happen, and we wish you and yours a very, VERY Happy Thanksgiving!
