"Time, Effort, and Skill": Galat Creates Success at SRU

College isn’t for everyone, but it is for some — and it is for our recent graduate, Zoey Galat (Class of 2021)I

Now in the second semester of her sophomore year at Slippery Rock University, she admits that it hasn’t been easy. “I don’t think people understand that it takes a lot of time, effort, and skill.” She shares that she spends most of her days staying after class or arriving early to finish her projects.

Her recent projects for her midterms involve bronze jewelry making in the Metalsmithing studio; creating a paper sculpture from the pages of a book in the fiber studio; and redesigning a logo — one that will benefit her mother’s photography business — in her graphic design class!

Even though it’s a lot of work, she shares, “I wouldn’t trade it for the world, though!”

In addition to her parents, she gives a lot of credit to her Commercial Art Teacher, Mr. Anthony DeRosa. “Before coming to Lawrence County CTC, I didn’t think I would ever attend college, but Mr. DeRosa inspired me. It was the little push I needed, and now — here I am!”

While she studied at LCCTC, Zoey was quite active and recognizes that this “extra” helped prepare her for the next chapter in life. “All the guidance and support from teachers and staff, the certifications I completed, the art shows I competed in, and even being in SkillsUSA —” Zoey lists, “it all helped prepare me for college. And I’m forever thankful for LCCTC.”
