"Success Leaves Clues": Interact Lays a Firm Foundation

Brian Rice, a retired Naval officer of 24.5 years, spoke to the Interact Club on Thursday. The Interact Club is a service-based organization intended to build character and self-reflection in its members.

After his service to our nation, at 43, he went to Geneva College to earn his Master's Degree. While playing basketball for Geneva, he earned a BS in Community Ministry and a Master's in Social Work.

Upon graduation, he then worked for the New Castle Area School District as a school social worker and, most recently, with Human Services as a counselor.

Rice is currently the Pastor at St. Paul Baptist Church in New Castle and runs a non-profit organization, Son of the City. He coaches basketball for the boys’ and girls’ basketball programs.

At the inaugural meeting, Rice spoke to our students about his life experiences as well as finding purpose in his career. He reminded them, stating, "There are going to be detours in life. Sometimes, you can see where you want to go, but you need to get through some things before you get to where you want to go." Inspired by his enthusiastic message, the new members of the Interact Club then participated in a Q&A time as well.

To support this year’s Interact Motto, “Success Leaves Clues”, Rice shared this: "Be a duplicate of the people you want to aspire to be like but don't be an imitator. Take what you like from others and fit it into your life."
