SkillsUSA Builds Bunkbeads for Youth Camp

Once again, our SkillsUSA Chapter at LCCTC gathered in Fombell, PA to lend a hand to Camp Kon-o-Kwee. This YMCA camp has been providing “epic fun, epic adventures, and epic memories” to children in the region for the past 100 years. Because of the LCCTC SkillsUSA Chapter’s work, the camp can now double the adventures for over two dozen kids, moving them from the camp’s waiting list and into a bunk. It demonstrates the good that can happen when SkillsUSA members "ignite their potential" to serve their community.

This year, we had a few experienced students from the building trades programs including Construction Trades and Electrical Occupations. Though they took the lead at the start of the day, even our Management Information Trades, Cosmetology, Oil and Gas, Commercial Arts, Veterinary Assistant, Health Assistant, and Restaurant Trades programs joined in on the fun of operating a power tool!

By the end of the day, stacks and stacks of bed frames were sanded and stained and bunk legs were cut and assembled, ready for installation in one of the several camping villages featured in the camp.

Great job, LCCTC Chapter of SkillsUSA! You have truly made this world a better place with every finished piece. You can look back on the day and say, “I did that!” and be proud of the quality product you produced.
