LCCTC Visits 18th Annual Engineering Day at ECF

LCCTC sent two students, Jake Cox and Dominic Gritz, to participate in the 18th Annual  High School Engineering Day held at Ellwood City Forge.

This was a unique opportunity to learn about engineering careers and more.  This event gave participants an opportunity to witness Ellwood City Forge’s state-of-the-art forging process as well as material testing and machining.

“It has definitely changed a lot inside since my dad worked there 3 days after HS graduation back in '73,” states LCCTC STEAM teacher, Brad Windhorst who chaperoned the trip. “Dad was there for 18 years before working up at ECM for another 27 years.”

Jake Cox was impressed with the facility. “I’ve heard a lot of great things about Ellwood City Forge,” he states, “and now that I have visited, I think this is a great opportunity for me. What encouraged me the most about my visit was talking to the workers and how much they enjoy their jobs.” Cox reports that he will continue to work hard to learn all he can so that next year, when he’s a senior, he might seek a position as a co-op student.
