JACK BUTZ LCCTC NOMINEE: Jack Butz, a local businessman, who was a philanthropist & humanitarian, was recognized years ago by the community as the Humanitarian of the year, he insisted that student scholarships be included. So he provided the original scholarship out of his own pocket. Now the scholarships are funded by the generosity of the local community. In the past 19 years, more than$200,000 in scholarships has been awarded to area students.

Each year, one senior from each Lawrence County School District and the CTC, is chosen to receive this scholarship. They exemplify the spirit of a humanitarian through community involvement.

Best of luck to all of you as you embark on this next chapter in your lives.

JERI PALUMBO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: In October of 2015, the LCCTC family experienced the loss of a tremendous individual, a lost breed of educator.  One can only strive to achieve her level of passion for her students and her professionalism in education. Ms. Palumbo was instrumental in establishing a Peer Leadership group at this school and was their mentor and advisor until October 2015.  The Peer Leadership students were “her” kids.  They respected her and responded to her as she drew out the best qualities of each member. Today’s Peer Leaders developed the rather strict qualification requirements keeping in mind Ms. Palumbo’s high level of expectations for her students. This scholarship was initiated in memory of Ms. Jeri Palumbo by the 2015-2016 Peer Leadership students at LCCTC.

I have the honor to announce this year’s recipient: Amelia Hogue – Amelia is a student in Cosmetology.  She is a 3 year member of Peer Leadership.  She has taken on great responsibilities this year including that of Vice President of Peer Leadership.  She stepped up to assist with anything that Mrs. Pasterik or Mr. Ovial needed. She was the Co-chair of the Turkey Box Fundraiser and spoke at the New Castle Rotary; because of this, she was able to help raise enough donations from various sources to assist 50 families allowing them the opportunity to enjoy their Thanksgiving dinner.  She has been a key player in our Peer Leadership organization throughout her years at LCCTC.  She will be greatly missed, and Peer Leadership wishes Amelia the best of luck as she will be attending Clarion for communications in the fall.

Congratulations Amelia.
