Vocation a Vacation: EO Spotlight
According to the United States Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, “the job outlook for electricians is expected to grow by 20 percent between 2012 and 2022.” With these statistics, it’s hard to question these students’ decisions to study Electrical Occupations at LCCTC.
Their instructor, Pete Montini becomes one of his students’ biggest fans: “Remember!” he bellows in the spacious shop, “Confucius says, ‘Find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life’!” These EO students smile in agreement at the familiar reminder as they work within the busy buzz of hands-on instruction.
It seems like there is always something new in the day of an electrician: Construction electricians lay out, assemble, install, and test electrical fixtures and wiring used in the electrical systems of construction sites. Maintenance electricians maintain and keep different types of electrical equipment in good working order principally by detecting and repairing defective equipment before a breakdown occurs. In a career like this, critical thinking is a must, and our EO students train to do all of this!
Each day, Montini encourages his students to find the electrifying wonder within a simple flip of a switch. With a spark in his eye and loud enough for all to hear, he offers, “We want the kids at LCCTC to make their vocation their VACATION!”
