Congratulations FFA: Lanna Schultz: 10th in the State!
The Future Farmers of America (FFA) team at LCCTC keeps on making their mark in the state of Pennsylvania. Of the twenty-four competitors competing in Employment Skills in the recent 2021 Virtual Pennsylvania State FFA Convention, our very own Lanna Schultz, junior Veterinary Assistant, has placed 10th in the state!
Lanna’s competition, considered a Leadership Development Event, encourages the development of important job-seeking skills with the intent to gain employment in the agriculture industry; it consists of real-world activities that challenges students to perform with confidence throughout the employment process. During competition, Lanna was asked to prepare a cover letter and resume, complete an application, and participate in a zoom interview.
Leadership skills including active listening, problem-solving/decision making, and written and oral communication skills were demonstrated — all skills that Lanna will need for successful employment! One aspect that helps her feel more confident: These skills are typical lessons that occur both in the shop and academics.
“I was able to prepare for competition by composing a cover letter and resume in my English class; we fine-tuned them for our chosen careers in the VA shop,” Lanna shares, “and after finishing my daily tasks in shop, I was able to practice my interview skills with a FFA teammate.”
Along with competing in employment skills, Lanna also took on the challenge of Senior Prepared Speech where she also placed in the top 10 as well as being a vital individual on the 2021 Veterinary Science Team.
Not only is Lanna successful in advancing herself through FFA; she also is a stand-out student in the classroom; Lanna has earned an "A" on both the written and performance section of her veterinary assistant final. “This is no easy feat", states Mrs. Yanak, instructor of the veterinary assistant program and FFA advisor. "Lanna has taken every opportunity that has been offered to her and flown with them. The personal, professional, and academic growth she has shown this year, even through the trials of Covid, has been spectacular to witness! I CANNOT wait to see what Lanna accomplishes her senior year!"
Lanna states, “I like the challenges that come with being in FFA; I am able to force myself to step outside of my comfort zone and push myself to do better and better with each competition.”
Congratulations, Lanna! We are so proud of all you have accomplished and look forward to seeing great things from you in your senior year with FFA at LCCTC!
