Pre-Apprenticeship Opportunity comes to LCCTC

Three LCCTC juniors recently traveled to BC3 to attend the first meeting for students interested in the Penn College Advanced Manufacturing Pre-apprenticeship (AMP) Program.

This program is designed to increase awareness in today’s manufacturing environment and a diverse career path in industries like aerospace, agriculture, automotive, construction, medicine, and industrial robotics. It provides a foundation in theory and hands-on skills for high-demand jobs like CNC Machinists, Health and Safety Inspection, and Mechatronics Maintenance.

During the meeting, students took a peek at the hybrid instruction model that includes self-paced online learning modules and associated in-person hands-on labs teamed with instructor-led discussions. Upon a successful completion of the course, students have the opportunity to take an industry-recognized Certified Manufacturing Associate certificate examination.

In the past, employers like First Quality, West Pharmaceutical Services, The Hershey Company, Kellog’s and the Ellwood City Forge have joined forces with PTC to provide a bridge for potential future employment upon graduation.

Amazingly, through a PA Department of Labor and Industry grant, our students have an opportunity to complete a course that would typically cost $2,400 for free.
