The sparks! The flashes! That’s what makes people first look. However, knowing that every day is something new, working with your hands, and being able to see the result of your efforts as you drive across a bridge, view an aircraft, or even enjoy a float as it’s wheeled on a cart you welded down a parade route — THAT is the true reward of becoming a welder.

Welding is fusing metal to form a permanent bond. It’s used in skyscrapers, airplanes, space shuttles, bridges and roads, and so much more! You’ll learn how to safely weld, how to read manuals, blueprints, and spec charts, and how to maintain equipment and machinery. You’ll learn the properties of metal, and how to conduct inspections. You’ll learn to cut and prepare materials to weld and several types of welding. And you’ll have the opportunity to earn OSHA certifications and to work with the Steamfitters to earn certifications!

In the welding program, you’ll learn to be detail-oriented and have manual dexterity, physical stamina, and spatial-orientation skills.
